If the Utes are overlooking UNLV, they aren't showing it in practice. Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said Wednesday he likes the effort he is seeing in his team and believes they have the right focus. "They better be," he said. "It is the MWC opener and every game has the same importance." Of course, there is always that 27-0 upset the Rebels handed the Utes in 2007 that Whittingham can use as a reminder of the bad things that can happen when teams overlook opponents. He said he isn't above reminding the team of that loss, which he still considers the most painful of his career. The good that came out of that night was Utah hasn't overlooked an opponent since then. "A loss is never a good thing," he said. "But it was a crossroads of sorts."
