The football preseason award watch lists are rolling out and as expected Chuckie Keeton is getting his share of attention as the quarterback has been named to the College Football Performance Awards Quarterback of the Year watch list in addition to the Heismanpundit/CBSSports.com Heisman watch list and the Maxwell Award watch list. He is also a first-team preseason all-conference selection by both Athlon Sports and Phil Steele. Also, sophomore tight end Wyatt Houston has been named to the 2014 John Mackey Award Watch List as a candidate for the nation's top tight end. Props to the athletic department overall as Utah State had 82 student-athletes recognized by the Mountain West Conference for its 2013-14 Scholar-Athlete Award recipients. Overall the conference recognized 651 such student-athletes. Utah State had 23 of its honorees come from women's track/cross country, 17 from men's track/cross country, 14 from women's soccer, five each from football and volleyball, four from men's tennis and women's tennis and softball and three from men's golf. Two were from women's basketball and another was from men's basketball. Only New Mexico had more representatives with 117 honorees. Student-athletes have to maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher to be eligible.
