Just as we get rolling into football season, basketball will be here before you know it.
Utah State men's basketball starts fall practice this Friday, Sept. 27, and just to whet appetites, Roots Sports announced the Aggies appear six times on the network this season.
Root, the regional TV partner of the Mountain West, will have air five of Utah State's conference games, and three of the games will be at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. The Aggies appearances will be as follows:
Nov. 12 • Southern Utah at Utah State, 7 p.m. MTJan. 1 • Utah State at Air Force, 6 p.m. MTFeb. 1 • Utah State at Wyoming, 4 p.m. MTFeb. 5 • Nevada at Utah State, 7 p.m. MTMarch 1 • Utah State at San Jose State, 6 p.m. MTMarch 5 • Wyoming at Utah State, 8 p.m. MT
Intriguing to see that on the first three months of the year, the Aggies kick off with a televised game. There are also two instances when Utah State will go back-to-back on Root Sports, playing on a Saturday followed by the next Wednesday. Utah State's Feb. 1 game at the Cowboys will be part of a basketball double-header that day.
One point of interest: UNLV does not appear once on the slate, while San Diego State will play once on Root Sports. Most of their games have been snatched up by ESPN and CBS Sports Network. It gives you a sense of who the big dogs (television-wise) in the conference are.
The plus for Utah State is that it gets more regional exposure, and will have a chance to compete on a bigger television stage when it plays some of the upper-echelon teams. When Utah State plays New Mexico, San Diego State and UNLV twice each this season, each game is scheduled to be on CBS Sports Network, ESPNU or ESPN3.
