Utah State wideout Matt Austin signs with Seattle Seahawks

Sure, it would've been nice to hear his name called in the NFL Draft.

But as it stands, Matt Austin isn't sweating the details. The 24-year-old wideout from Utah State knows he's in good hands after signing with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent.

"I'm feeling good, I'm just relieved now," he told the Tribune shortly after the conclusion of the draft. "I've just been blessed with this opportunity to play in the NFL, and I've got to take advantage of it."

Austin lands with a competitive team, but also has a lot of friends already in Seattle. Former Aggies Robert Turbin and Bobby Wagner play there, as well as his junior college teammate Bruce Irvin.

But Austin also impressed the Seahawks on merit. As a senior, he led the team with 48 catches for 729 yards and 5 touchdowns. He was a second-team all-WAC receiver, and was invited to the Casino Del Sol All-Star game. Austin impressed NFL scouts at Utah State's Pro Day in March with a 4.50 40-yard dash, and was considered a fringe candidate for the Draft.

Austin said watching Will Davis and Kerwynn Williams get drafted was great, and he would've loved to follow in their footsteps. But he's just as happy landing in Seattle, who showed continued interest throughout the process.

"Everything happened real quick, but they knew who I was and said that they liked me," Austin said. "They were texting me the whole way through the draft, so they wanted me."

Austin is one of many undrafted Aggie hopefuls looking for an NFL roster spot this summer. Others who may sign with teams after going undrafted include Kellen Bartlett, Bojay Filimoeatu, Al Lapuaho, Chuck Jacobs and a handful of other Utah State alums.
