The Aggies are settled for sure: Utah State fans will catch their team on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. PT taking on UT-Arlington at the Orleans Arena for the quarterfinals of the WAC tournament.

It's the rest of the league that's taking time to sort out.

The No. 1 seed is up for contention between Louisiana Tech and Denver. The Bulldogs fell on Thursday, so the Pioneers still have a chance to tie for the regular season title and take the No. 1 spot if they can beat La Tech on Saturday. Denver can only get the No. 1 seed if they can boost their RPI (64) above the Bulldogs (47). That might take a few wins from non-conference opponents (ie Mercer and Northern Iowa on Friday) to accomplish.

This is probably the one seeding item USU fans should care about. If the Aggies win Thursday, they're in the same half of the bracket as the No. 1 seed. It's probably beneficial to play the team that needed an overtime miracle to beat you last time they played over the team that pounded you 84-61 in the last meeting.

The Pioneers are hot, but it seems like USU would have a better chance at an upset. Plus, the way that La Tech and New Mexico State play, it's probably better for the Aggies to let those two teams to wear each other out in the semis (assuming they make it that far).

Other teams' situations are covered by a WAC media release:

• Idaho and New Mexico State are locked in for Thursday's noon game.

• Texas State and San Jose State are vying for the 7, 8 and 9 spots, and UTSA and Seattle are in contention for the 8, 9, and 10 spots. It's basically just a matter of who plays who in Tuesday's first round as the top 6 teams get a bye to Thursday. Utah State can have an effect on this by beating UTSA this weekend, which would condemn UTSA to a 9 or 10 seed (but of course isn't that different at all).

UTSA and San Jose State complicated the scenarios by canceling their game because of roof leaks last night. Go figure.

If you're wondering about the Aggie women's team, Utah State is still in the mix for a number one seed, which they hope to clinch with a win Saturday at UTSA and a Seattle loss against visiting Idaho. Their first game will be played on Wednesday in Vegas, but the time is not yet determined.
