It shouldn't be much of a surprise after his second 3-point buzzer-beater of the season.
Utah State junior guard Preston Medlin earned his first WAC player of the week honor this year after leading the Aggies to victory against Texas State, Seattle, and Idaho last week. The obvious highlight was his gutsy long shot from the wing that tied up the Vandals game at 69-all and forced overtime in an eventual Utah State win.
For the week, Medlin averaged 20.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game for a pretty round stat sheet. He shot better from 3-point range (41.7 percent) than from the field (41.5 percent).
Medlin was also cited as an honorable-mention national player of the week by NBC Sports.
After a somewhat sluggish start to the season, the preseason WAC player of the year has been living up to his reputation. He's leading the WAC in scoring during conference play (21.3 ppg) and in 3-pointers made (13). For the year overall, he's averaging 15.8 ppg, 3.8 rpg and 3.2 apg.
Kyisean Reed won the award two weeks ago, the only other Aggie to earn it this year.
Utah State gets vote in latest national poll
The Aggies' 13-game win streak has not gone unnoticed — at least by one coach in the USA Today coaches' poll.
Utah State got one vote this week in the poll, joining the likes of Arizona State, Temple and Virginia as single-vote additions. It was the first time the Aggies had gotten any votes since the end of the 2011 season.
It's not the only national respect Utah State has been getting this year. CBS Sports' most recent edition of Bracketology has Utah State as a No. 14 seed and WAC champion.
