The Aggies football team has officially announced that BYU offensive line coach Mark Weber will join the Utah State staff in the same role and assistant head coach, confirming earlier media reports.
In a Monday school release, the program announced the addition of the 34-year coaching veteran, who also had stops at North Carolina, Fresno State, UCLA and UNLV. Joining the staff of new coach Matt Wells, Weber will be one of the most experienced coaches with the team.
"Mark brings a great deal of experience with him to Utah State and has tremendous knowledge about football in the state of Utah," Wells said in the release. "His time spent in the Mountain West Conference will aid us as we transition into a new league, and we welcome Mark and his family to Logan."
Weber comes to Utah State after six years with the Cougars, participating in six bowls with the team. He coached six all-conference linemen at BYU, including two All Americans.
An offensive staff shake-up at the school helped Weber land in Logan, where the program hopes he'll be a steadying presence.
"There is great energy and momentum with the Aggie program and I'm thrilled to get the chance to help in its growth," said Weber. "Matt is innovative and energetic and did a fantastic job as Utah State's offensive coordinator. I love the way those offensive linemen play with their mindset and attitude, and I can't wait to be part of that program and around those kids."
With Weber's hire, there are only a few open positions left. Defensive coordinator is the biggest question mark, followed by running backs coach.
Outside of Weber, most of Wells' staff is composed of young coaches who have already spent time with the Aggies.
Utah State retained defensive line coach Frank Maile, cornerbacks coach Kendrick Shaver, wide receivers coach Jovon Bouknight and linebackers coach Kevin Clune. Wells hired Kevin McGiven, who was on Gary Andersen's staff in 2009, as co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach and his brother, Luke Wells as co-offensive coordinator, tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator.
