New Aggies football coach Matt Wells has officially named his successor at offensive coordinator.

Utah State will bring back Kevin McGiven, an assistant from the 2009 team who has since had stops in Memphis and most recently Montana State. The school sent out an official release, confirming earlier reports that McGiven was joining the staff.

McGiven will be the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

"The coaching profession doesn't always allow you to stay home and it's a unique experience for me and my family to come back to the state we call home and a place we are comfortable with," McGiven said in the release. "I strongly believe that Utah State is a special place with outstanding support and an unbelievable fan base and I'm excited to be a part of it and get to work."

As of Friday afternoon, the Aggies had not yet announced any other outside hires. BYU offensive line coach Mark Weber is expected to join Utah State in the same capacity, while other media reports cited Luke Wells as another offensive addition.

McGiven, a quarterbacks coach at Utah State in 2009, comes to Logan from Montana State, where he was the offensive coordinator for the Bobcats. An Orem native, he's also been a coach at Memphis, Weber State and Southern Utah.

Under McGiven, Utah State should continue the spread system it's used the last few years. McGiven helped mentor quarterback Diondre Borel while with the Aggies.

McGivens led the Bobcats to the No. 20 scoring offense (33.46 ppg) and the No. 29 total offense (414.38 ypg) in the FCS this past season at Montana State. Montana State quarterback DeNarius McGee was No. 18 in total offense in the FCS, averaging 271.85 ypg.

Matt Wells has already retained four other assistants who were already with the program: defensive line coach Frank Maile, cornerbacks coach Kendrick Shaver, linebackers coach Kevin Clune and wide receivers coach Jovon Bouknight.
