Although he's still a week from playing his first official college basketball game, and although he's not going to be a starter this season in all likelihood, you can see the talent oozing from James Walker.

From the way handles the ball, to his 6-foot-2 length as a point guard, to his athleticism and to the way he defends, Walker is a different player at that position than Utah State's had in recent seasons.

Walker is Stew Morrill's highest rated recruit in years, a Gazelle in the open floor. In the Aggies exhibition game against Laval last Saturday, Walker had six points, and a game-high seven assists in 14 minutes.

Those are encouraging numbers, and he figures to play a impactful role this season as he will be the primary back-up for Brockeith Pane and may even spend some time at shooting guard.

"He's coming along," Morrill told Aggieville. "He has to learn the system, but you can see the potential. We're going to be very patient with him this season."

Walker is a reason why Aggie fans are so excited about the depth of their team this year. He's a very good athlete and is able to get his shot off with the dribble. How he comes along will be a key for Utah State this year.
