A couple of weeks of relative inactivity on the local college basketball front was broken Thursday with the announcement that BYU had received a commitment from 6-10 Isaac Neilson of Mission Viejo, Calif. A senior, Neilson will go on a church mission before enrolling at BYU, so we won't see him in Cougar blue until the 2014-15 season. Locally, the state's top prep players (seniors) are widely considered to be West's Tyrell Corbin, Brighton's Corbin Miller, Box Elder's Brant Mecham and David Collette, a 6-8 center at Murray High. Mecham has committed to Utah Valley University. Miller recently announced his final four are Stanford, Harvard, Boston College and Vanderbilt. As for Collette, he said today that he has yet to receive an offer from a Division I program. However, Weber State, Southern Utah and Utah State have expressed interest, especially Weber State. Utah State is making an in-home visit on Monday and will probably be at Murray's open gym earlier that day. Southern Utah recently got into the picture. "It's pretty open right now," Collette said, when asked if he has a preference. The rising star told us a few months ago that his dream was to play for BYU. However, the Cougar coaching staff recently informed him they don't have a scholarship available for him right now. That was before they landed the commitment from Neilson. Collette averaged 15 points and seven rebounds as a junior, and was named first-team all-Region 2 and honorable mention all-state.
