Jordan DE Christian Shaver commits to Colorado

Christian Shaver's relentlessness on the field, in practice, in the weight room and in the classroom paid off Wednesday afternoon when the Jordan senior defensive end committed to the University of Colorado.

Beetdigger defensive coordinator Kyle Kafentzis confirmed Shaver's commitment, saying he phoned the Colorado coaching staff during lunch Wednesday afternoon.

Shaver, a 6-foot-3, 235-pound defensive end, is learning a new position this year, Kafentzis said. Shaver starred as a linebacker on last year's 2012 Class 5A state title team.

His transition to the line has been seamless, Kafentzis said. Shaver, a pure athlete who runs a 4.45-second 40, can succeed in any defensive system. Kafentzis said he sits well in a 3-4 or 4-3 scheme and said he'll be an explosive hybrid type player in college who will get up to 245 to 250 pounds.

"He's one of our hardest workers," Kafentzis said. "Strength-wise, he is one of the strongest kids on the team, and he's a very, very smart kid."

Kafentzis said Shaver transferred in from Arizona before the start of last year.

"We had no idea who he was or what we were going to get," the Jordan defensive coordinator said. "You still have to get out on the football field and play. This year, he's doing a different position. In high school, he's a man amongst boys."

Shaver joins Logan High School defensive end Sam Bennion as a future Colorado Buffalo. The 6-5 senior at Logan committed to Colorado two weeks ago.
