Brighton shooting guard Corbin Miller has committed to play basketball at Harvard.

Miller, a 6-foot-2 senior, made an oral commitment while on a recruiting visit to the school on Saturday evening, Brighton coach Lyndon Johnson said.

A deadly outside shooter, Miller received between 10 and 12 offers, Johnson said. His final four choices were all strong academic schools, Stanford, Harvard, Boston College and Vanderbilt. In the end, academics was what tipped Miller, who aspires to be a lawyer, to Harvard, his coach said.

"The main thing was he's probably going to get the finest education in the country," Johnson said.

Miller was a first-team selection to The Tribune's 5A All-State team as a junior. Utah State was the first school to offer him a scholarship, as a sophomore, and Utah and Brigham Young followed.

Harvard plays in the Ivy League, perhaps the best known conference of universities, but not necessarily because of its athletics. Miller chose Harvard over schools in bigger basketball conferences, such as the Pacific 10, the Atlantic Coast and the Southeastern conferences.

But at Harvard, there may be more chances for Miller to excel, Johnson said.

"I think he thinks he can play early, and I think he can," Johnson said, "and play a lot."
