Republicans offer fiscal cliff plan. Herbert to meet with Obama, Boehner & Reid. Brigham City mayor apologizes for affair.

Happy Tuesday. With but a few weeks remaining, Republicans proposed a solution to the pending fiscal cliff that calls for $800 billion in new revenue, billions in cuts for federal health programs and billions in cuts for discretionary spending.

-> They credit its framework to a plan laid out last year by former Clinton chief of staff Erskine Bowles, though Bowles distanced himself from the plan on Monday: "While I'm flattered the Speaker would call something 'the Bowles plan,' the approach outlined in the letter Speaker Boehner sent to the president does not represent the Simpson-Bowles plan, nor is it the Bowles plan." Topping the news: Herbert and the other eight members of the National Governors Association executive committee will meet with President Barack Obama, House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid this morning to discuss the potential impact of the fiscal cliff. [DNews]
