Local artists donate work to help Conservation Garden Park
Local artists some of whom have unique personal stories are donating their works for a charity auction set for this weekend.
The auction is to benefit Conservation Garden Park, a West Jordan botanical garden that offers free classes on landscaping for Utah's climate. The auction is set for Saturday at the garden's Education Center, 8275 S. 1300 West, West Jordan, during the annual Party in the Park event with silent bidding running from 4 to 8 p.m.
Nearly 50 pieces of art have been produced for the auction, with some of the artists found at local senior centers.
One of the donating artists is Tom Carter, a 91-year-old blind veteran of World War II's Pacific theater. According to a garden spokesman, Carter's response to being asked to donate a picture was, "Well, I'm not so good anymore, but if I can still help somebody, I'll do it."
