• Have to say goodbye to Lou Reed, the pioneering rock artist and the poet of New York's streets, who died at the age of 71. [AP, via The Salt Lake Tribune]

• A producer of "The Simpsons" says the show will retire the character of Edna Krabappel, Bart's exasperated teacher, after the death of Marcia Wallace, the comedienne who provided Edna's voice. (Wallace, who died at age 70, was also famous as Carol Kester, the wacky receptionist to straitlaced psychologist Bob Hartley on "The Bob Newhart Show.") [The Wrap]
