A major Utah arts group is changing its name, but not its mission.
The Park City Performing Arts Foundation, which books concerts and other events at Park City's Eccles Center (and, in the summer, at Deer Valley's Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater), has renamed itself the Park City Institute, officials announced Monday.
"We have chosen a name that better reflects what we do and who we've grown to become," Teri Orr, executive director of the newly named institute, said in a statement. "We have evolved into an organization exploring and presenting so much more than performing arts."
Orr cited the institute's afterschool literacy center, called IQ HQ, as well as its presentations of speakers at TEDx conferences. Also, the word "foundation" was often misleading, because the organization doesn't give grant money.
PCPAF, now PCI, was founded in 1994. The new name was owned, Orr said, by local artists Mark and Mary Beth Maziarz, who "graciously turned the name over to our organization and we are so grateful."
Some of the entertainers coming to the Eccles Center in the 2013-14 season include Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Bernadette Peters (on New Year's Eve), Boz Skaggs and Garrison Keillor.
