This is an archived article that was published on sltrib.com in 2013, and information in the article may be outdated. It is provided only for personal research purposes and may not be reprinted.

Here's what's happening in pop culture:

The New York Times reports that Jimmy Fallon will succeed Jay Leno as host of "The Tonight Show" by next year – and the show will move back to New York. Of course, we thought Conan O'Brien would host "The Tonight Show" for years and years, and look what happened there. [The New York Times]

• Singer Michelle Shocked is apologizing for comments at a San Francisco show last weekend that were perceived as anti-gay. "I do not, nor have I ever, said or believed that God hates homosexuals (or anyone else)," she wrote in a rambling explanation. [Entertainment Weekly]

• Disney is remaking its 1977 live-action/animated hybrid "Pete's Dragon" – and if you don't remember it, neither does anybody else. (It featured the big-screen acting debut of Helen Reddy, if that helps.) Even weirder, one of the writers hired to write the screenplay is David Lowery, who directed the outlaws-on-the-run Sundance entry "Ain't Them Bodies Saints." [Vulture]
