The people behind the "Mormon Girls" Twitter feed have made a video poking fun at the, um, shall we say unique, way people in Utah name their daughters.
The YouTube video, posted Friday, starts with a young woman (Chelsea Wilson) giving her name as Aunistee (pronounced "honesty"), from Pleasant Grove. She and another woman (Elisabeth Evans) then take turns reeling off a litany of imaginitively spelled and pronounced names — and all, they claim, are 100-percent real.
UPDATE: Some background information on our filmmakers: Chelsea Wilson is a self-proclaimed "BYU baby," born in Provo and educated in St. George (with a long stint in Georgia in between). She and Evans, who's from Ohio, became friends at the University of Michigan, both studying musical theater. Evans is a senior there, while Wilson graduated last May and is now an actor and voice teacher in New York.
Writes Wilson: "My mom, aunt, Elisabeth, and I LOVE collecting horrible names, so we've always wanted to do some kind of video about it, exposing this ridiculous element of Utah culture."
Their previous video, "Things Mormon Girls Say," has had 280,000 views on YouTube — and the new one already has 30,000-plus in just a few days.
