Look for a new voice — or, at least, a new voice for The Salt Lake Tribune — soon.

Scott Pierce, the longtime TV critic for the Deseret News and one of the 85 staffers who were laid off there last week, will become the Tribune's TV writer later this month, Tribune editors told the newsroom Thursday afternoon.

Pierce will replace my colleague Vince Horiuchi, who is shifting beats to become the Tribune's full-time personal-tech reporter. Horiuchi will write about gadgets and video games, but also the cultural impact of new technology.

The biggest hardship for Horiuchi is being forced to end his long boycott of Facebook and Twitter.
