Carol Lynn Pearson, an LDS author, poet and playwright who has written about the experiences of gay Mormons, will receive the 4th annual "Fairly-Free Thinker Award" from the First Unitarian Church of Salt Lake City.

Pearson will be honored at a benefit auction Nov. 13 for the "Standing on the Side of Love" campaign, a Unitarian Universalist effort to address social justice issues, including LGBT rights. The event, 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the University of Utah's Rice-Eccles Tower, is co-hosted by Sister Dottie S. Dixon and Rebecca Heal of the Saliva Sisters.

Tickets can be purchased online for $45 until Nov. 10. Attendees can buy tickets at the door for $55.
