Utah State Parks, in another creative way to promote fishing at the parks, has come up with the Trifishalon Ice Fishing Tournament. The first ever Trifishalon involves three reservoirs — Scofield, Rockport and Starvation — and three different fishing dates. Anglers registered for all three dates pay $50, it is possible to fish just one for $15, and will enter the largest trout from each event. The person with the largest total measurement will win an $800 gift certificate to Sportsman's Warehouse. Prizes will also be awarded at each tournament.
Dates for tournaments are: Dec. 29 at Scofield; Jan. 19 at Rockport and Feb. 9 at Starvation. No word on what happens if the ice is not safe on those dates. Anglers can register by calling 801-322-3779 or 800-322-3770 or by visiting the State Parks webpage.
The largest trout for the tournament is likely to come from Scofield, where the state record tiger trout in this picture was caught last winter. The sleeper water is Starvation. Anglers dialed in to the trout there are likely to place high in the overall standings.
