Welcome to Fishing Friday, on Thursday. Off on a family trip for the holiday weekend so posting early.

The centerpiece story for the Fishing Page for this week's Sunday Away section is on the South Fork of the Snake River in southeastern Idaho. I have been trying to hook up with Bill Klyn of Patagonia to do some fishing around Jackson Hole for a while and we had this one planned well in advance. Bill sent me a message the day before letting me know Yvon would be joining us. Yes, Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia. We had a great float with Yvon and Bill manning the oars for myself and Tribune photographer Francisco Kjolseth. I also really enjoyed fishing with Bruce Smithhammer, who I met over on the Green River earlier this summer. Yvon, who doesn't really like to fish from a dory, caught the first fish on our first stop while wading. Fishing was not stellar that day, but we all caught fish and I loved floating a big river again, particularly because it was my first float on the South Fork.

Other fishing related items this week include Hook Shot and Fly of the Week. The Spot of the Week is info about the South Fork.

Those with an interest in Yellowstone may also find these two stories interesting. Here's one about the new Old Faithful Visitors Education Center and one about grizzlies being more visible this year due to a whitebark pine nut shortage.

Enjoy
