Help in the secondary is on the way for the BYU Cougars, but whether the reinforcement will play in Saturday's rivalry game against Utah is anybody's guess. Thursday, the NCAA approved a waiver request by BYU on behalf of safety Chris Badger, who has been trying to transfer from Notre Dame to BYU. The waiver means Badger, who has been practicing with the Cougars since the first of the month, is immediately eligible for competition. Badger is considered a redshirt freshman. He transferred to BYU, and asked the NCAA for the waiver, to be closer to his mother, who is experiencing some difficulties. Badger prepped at Timpview High and graduated early so he could enroll at Notre Dame and play spring ball. After spring ball, he served at LDS Church mission from 2010-11. He redshirted for the Irish last season while Notre Dame was making its run to the national championship game. Notre Dame released Badger to other schools last spring, but he went through fall camp in South Bend before deciding to transfer to BYU.
