My apologies for the lack of blog posts the past two days. Blame it on technical difficulties. We're settled in here in Fort Worth at the BYU team hotel as the Cougars finish final preparations for Saturday's game against No. 4-ranked TCU at Carter Stadium. From all the players in shirts, jackets and ties mingling around in the lobby, I'm guessing the fireside at the Stake Center in Colleyville (Texas) wrapped up less than an hour ago. ———————— Just when the furor over the BYU-San Diego State replay mess seemed to be subsiding a little bit, a San Diego sports radio host, Chris Ello, threw fuel on the fire with his hate-filled diatribe directed at BYU. Props to Patrick Kinahan of KFAN Radio (1320 AM) in Salt Lake City for catching the remarks (made Thursday) and replaying for his audience this morning. Here's the link to Ello's diatribe, which are as disturbing as you will probably ever hear on the radio. It will be interesting to see if this guy keeps his job. Ello later apologized for his rant, at least partially. But it appears the rant was not out of character. Check out this post Ello put on his blog about BYU and the town of Provo some 18 months ago after a BYU-SDSU basketball game.————————— Last spring, Michael Loyd told me he was kicked off BYU's basketball team, and that he really, really didn't want to leave. In fact, months after he was given the heave-ho, Loyd was still living in Provo, playing pickup games in the Marriott Center and hanging out with his former teammates. So it was kind of interesting to read this piece today from the newspaper that covers the school Loyd transferred to, Midwestern State. My favorite line from Mike: "The [LDS] Church was heavily involved with the school." Gee Mike, ya think?
