The Mountain West Conference men's basketball preseason polls were released this morning at the MWC media day outside Denver. BYU guard Jimmer Fredette is the preseason MWC Player of the Year. BYU freshman guard Kyle Collinsworth is the preseason Freshman of the Year. The Cougars are picked to finish second in the league, behind San Diego State. In the team voting, the Aztecs got 21 first-place votes, while BYU got five. New Mexico got three first-place votes and UNLV got one. The all-conference preseason team includes Fredette, SDSU's Malcolm Thomas and Kawhi Leonard, UNM's Dairese Gary and UNLV's Tre'Von Willis. New Mexico's Drew Gordon, a transfer from UCLA, is the Newcomer of the Year. Here is the predicted order of finish (with first-place votes in parentheses):1. San Diego State (21)2. BYU (5)3.
