If you haven't read it yet, be sure to check out this lengthy piece in the Wall Street Journal about former BYU linebacker Bryan Kehl finding out his biological father is former NFL running back Maurice Turner. It's one of the best reads of the year.
As an addendum to the story, a reader points out that Kehl's half-brother played at LaVell Edwards Stadium in 2008 when Northern Iowa visited Provo.
More reading for you this morning: Here's my feature on BYU running back Joshua Quezada. Here's a Gordon Monson column on the offensive lines at Utah and BYU. Here's my notebook on the injury to receiver Ross Apo. Some clarification is probably in order, since I've seen conflicting accounts about the possibility of Apo redshirting. Apo played in a couple special teams plays against Washington, which means he cannot take a "normal" redshirt year. The injury won't sideline him for the rest of the season, so he cannot ask the NCAA for a medical redshirt. So it is most likely that he will begin playing again when the dislocated finger has healed sufficiently, and will be a sophomore next year. - CBS College Sports debuts its "College Football Confidential" program tonight (5 p.m. MT) with a behind-the-scenes look at teams as they practice and prepare for Saturday. The show's debut episode features BYU leading up to its season-opening 23-17 win over Washington in LaVell Edwards Stadium. Here's info from a news release: The Network will provide viewers a look at BYU's game-week experiences, school traditions and more. The show captures Head Coach Bronco Mendenhall's decision to go with two quarterbacks for the opening game, the team's weekly community fireside service, and goes off-the-field to meet the family of senior defensive back Brandon Bradley, who is married with a child.
