It didn't take BYU long to crack the USA Today Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Cougars are ranked No. 24 in the poll, which was released Tuesday morning. BYU is tied for 32nd in the AP Poll. In the coaches poll, Boise State moved up to No. 3, while TCU climbed to No. 5. BYU's Week Three opponent, Florida State, is No. 18. Utah is tied for No. 20 with Auburn. Air Force received one vote in the coaches poll. In the AP poll, TCU is No. 4, FSU is No. 17 and Utah is No. 20. ——————————————-BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall said in the MWC coaches teleconference today that BYU definitely wants to play Air Force in the future. It is the first MWC team I've heard Mendenhall say he wants to continuing playing (other than Utah, of course). "Our [athletic director] is already working with Air Force's A.D.," Mendenhall said. "We'd like to continue to play, if possible, because of the respect I have for the Academy."While not ruling out playing BYU, Air Force coach Troy Calhoun said it will be difficult because of AFA's schedule. The Falcons don't have many open dates because they will always want to play Army and Navy every year. And if the MWC plays a nine-game schedule next year, that doesn't leave much room to schedule BYU. "The key is how do you mix and match.....," said Calhoun. "That's something you have to be able to do."————————— Mendenhall talked a lot about his respect for AFA during his weekly news conference this morning at Legends Grille. He reiterated many of the themes he touched upon Saturday night after the Washington game: that playing AFA this early in the year is going to be a formidable challenge. Mendenhall also talked about the play of the inside linebackers, and what the depth chart could look like this week: "Aveni Leung-Wai showed his athleticism and speed, which we knew he had from fall camp. We were impressed with that from his perspective. Austen Jorgensen played very physical, and very consistently. Probably the best combination of both after week I, was Brandon Ogletree. He played fast and played assignment sound and played physical. So we were encouraged. Zac Stout didn't get as many reps as we were hoping to get him, so still the evaluation is ongoing. The most impressive and most consistent overall from the first game was Shane Hunter. The good news is we think we have four good players, and a fifth, a young player, to be developed and to be continued to be evaluated. I am not sure we are closer to having starting positions down, but one of the things where we are under the gun a little bit is when you play against Air Force, the week is never long enough, and the more you divide reps between players, really the worse your execution is. So we might be forced this week to make some hard decisions because of who [we] are playing. And that would be only for this week, because of the nature of the game, and then go back to opening it up a little bit more for the following week."
