Cut-down day in the NFL was not kind to several former Cougars. However, some ex-BYU players were assigned to practice squads, and one was claimed off waivers by another team, so the news wasn't all bad. And according to several reports out of Arizona, former BYU quarterback Max Hall has not only made the Cardinals' roster, but will be listed as the No. 2 quarterback behind Derek Anderson. Here's an interesting look at how Hall made the Arizona roster, with comments from his famous uncle, former Cowboys quarterback and Utah Blaze coach Danny White. More roster news: * Offensive guard Dallas Reynolds was released by the Philadelphia Eagles, then assigned to the practice squad. * The Miami Dolphins released guard Ray Feinga and assigned him to the practice squad. Feinga suffered a concussion after a single-car accident in early August. * The Oakland Raiders released linebacker David Nixon, but the former Cougar LB has been claimed off the waiver wire by the Houston Texans. * The Raiders also released fullback Manase Tonga, but assigned him to the practice squad. * The Raiders released receiver Todd Watkins. * The Bengals released fullback Fui Vakapuna. * The Dallas Cowboys released offensive guard Travis Bright, but some reports out of Dallas say he will be assigned to the practice squad. * Former BYU tight end Andrew George was released in June by the Carolina Panthers, but he signed on Aug. 24 with the Buffalo Bills. However, he was released by the Bills on Saturday.————————————————Thinking about adding Max Hall to your fantasy team? Here's what fantasy football expert Christopher Harris wrote about Hall on ESPN.com recently:"Incidentally, it's worth noting how much hype undrafted rookie quarterback Max Hall is getting. To me, the BYU product is a middling-armed, relatively small guy with admittedly good accuracy and not a ton of upside. But let's face it, I'm 3,000 miles away from Cardinals camp. The team seems very interested in grooming Hall to be their quarterback of the future, and if [Derek] Anderson struggles, the future could be this year for Hall. Dynasty leaguers should rememberthis."——————————————— Got the next item from Bob Condotta's blog in the Seattle Times after last night's BYU-Washington game. This is what UW defensive coordinator Nick Holt said about the Cougars: On going against Jake Heaps: "I really didn't notice him out there, quite honestly. I know he's No. 9 and he's just another player out there to me. Obviously when he was in the game you were thinking a little more pass, but in the second half they tried to run the ball and things like that. I didn't notice anything. I don't know if his stats are good. I didn't really pay attention to how well he played. He might have done good or bad, I didn't really pay attention to him. (No.) 13 (Riley Nelson) was more of a threat, in our opinion, because he could run." On how UW matched up with BYU physically: "I think physically we matched up really good with them. The run game, their longest run was 19 yards on something we screwed up. I thought our guys played the run really well, considering we missed a couple tackles...our free safety missed a couple of tackles, Nate Fellner missed a couple tackles...overall, the run game was pretty solid."
