My apologies for the lateness of this BYU practice report. I've been busy putting this piece together after Tribune sports editors obtained internal documents from Utah State detailing how the plans for BYU to jump to the WAC in all sports but football and go independent in football were hours away from being finalized, then came crashing down when MWC officials jumped into the fray and invited Nevada and Fresno State. ————————- Practice was closed today, although the players and coaches were made available to the media when it was over. I didn't make it to the post-practice chat sessions, but BYU sports information director for football Brett Pyne has provided the following information: The Cougars announced Thursday that their team captains this football season will be senior safety Andrew Rich and junior offensive tackle Matt Reynolds. Both have played in all 26 games the past two seasons. The other big news out of Thursday's practice is that redshirt freshman defensive end Thomas Bryson, the former Layton High star, has been suspended for the Washington game on Sept. 4 and will not play. BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall said Bryson will participate on the scout team during practices next week and was suspended due to a violation of team rules. ———————— BYU coaches also announced the following players will be redshirt candidates for the 2010 season: Offense: Jordan Black, OL Matt Jensen, OL Cole Jones, OL Quinn Lawlor, OL Manu Mulitalo, OL Blair Tushaus, OL Algernon Brown, RB A.J. Moore, RBDrew Phillips, RB DJ Doman, WR Bryan Sampson, TEDefense Jordan Atkinson, LB Cole Herrmann, LB Collin Keoshian, LB Alani Fua, LB Sae Tautu, LBPeter Welsh, LB Jordan Johnson, DB Kori Gaines, DBDeQuan Everett, DB Travis Tuiloma, DLJosh Marquardt, DL
