Utah's 1st Inland Sandcastle Building Competition arriving

Pleasant Grove City's Downtown Park is the site of a historic marker commemorating the first Indian battle in Utah, but on Saturday, Aug. 24 there will be a battle of different sorts as folks compete in Utah's 1st Inland Sandcastle Building Competition.

As part of Mission at Alpine Valley Care Center's "Back to School Beach Party Fundraiser" 18 tons of sand will be brought in and an artificial beach created for the event. Those interested can sign-up at the park at 100 Main Street in Pleasant Grove, Utah beginning at noon.

Entry fees: Individual $4, Family $20, Business $200.

The contest will end at 6 p.m., prizes will be awarded.

From noon to 9 p.m. festivities will also include Utah's 1st Outdoor Body Building demonstration/competition, car show, mini-carnival, petting zoo and pony rides, pie eating contest, "baby bathing beauty contest," food and a community dance to end the evening of fun.

Guest celebrities include: Mrs. Utah Michele Weeks and national body building competitor Mike Chance.Entry to the park is free, with tickets sold for the individual games and events.

Mission at Alpine Valley Care Center is a non-profit Senior Care community offering short-stay rehabilitation and long term skilled nursing care for elders and others with disabilities, located at 25 E. Alpine Dr. in Pleasant Grove.

This fundraiser will provide continued quality of life experiences for the elders.
