Monday in Utah: Searching for Rodriguez, Jenny O

The headliner for Monday's much-anticipated show is Detroit folk-rocker Rodriguez, the mild-mannered star of "Searching for Sugar Man," which debuted at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and won an Academy Award for Best Documentary.

Singer-songwriter Jenny O, whose first album, "Automechanic," was released earlier this year, has opened for the "really mellow" Rodriguez several times, she said in a recent telephone interview.

Born Jennifer Anne Ognibene, she grew up on Long Island and attended the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College for Recording and Composition.

O moved to Los Angeles about five years ago and has found a community of like-minded artists in the second coming of the Laurel Canyon singer-songwriter movement, which she said "is nice to be associated with."

She grew up on classic records made during the Laurel Canyon heyday, when artists such as Joni Mitchell and Crosby, Stills & Nash crafted softer songs — a counter offering to the hysterics of psychedelic rock.
