USU's Skyroom to be transformed into a 1930s-era jazz nightclub — for a few nights

Utah State University's Skyroom Restaurant will be transformed into a 1930s-era jazz nightclub Feb. 15 and 16 for the ninth annual "Jazz Night at the Sky Club."The evening begins with a reception followed by dinner, live jazz music and dancing.

All proceeds support the Larry Smith Jazz Scholarship.The production is a combined effort of USU's Music Department, the Skyroom Restaurant in the Taggart Student Center, USU Catering and University Inn and Conference Center.The dinner includes salad and a variety of entrees that include beef coulotte steak, pan grilled salmon fillet or a choice of two other entrees, including a vegetarian offering, then dessert.Following dinner, the USU Jazz Ensemble and Orchestra and their vocalists kick off the remainder of the evening with Big Band dance songs so we can all do the Charleston, Lindy Hop, and Jitterbug.The USU groups are joined by Smith, the guest of honor, a former USU jazz educator and noted saxophonist.Free swing dance lessons will be available in the TSC International Lounge nightly one hour before the event.Tickets for "Jazz Night at the Sky Club" are $48 and are available at the USU Ticket Office in the Smith Spectrum (900 E. 900 North, Logan) through Tuesday, Feb. 12. The University Inn on the USU campus offers an overnight package that includes two tickets to the show, a night stay and a hot breakfast the next morning.
