Utah Chocolate Show canceled

One of the most popular Utah food events, The Utah Chocolate Show, will not be held this year, according to former organizer Melanie Henderson.

Henderson had produced the show for five years but handed it over to someone else in 2009. It was scheduled for Friday and Saturday Nov. 19 and 20 at the Southe Town Expo Center.

".....neither the Utah Chocolate Show or any of its competitions and associated events will be hosted at the South Towne Expo Center as in years past," Henderson wrote in an e-mail sent Monday. The letter also stated that "There are no plans in place for a 2011 Utah Chocolate Show, but you will be contacted if anything develops."

The official website is still operating, albiet on a limited basis. The site does not mention that the event has been cancelled and contestants can still download entry forms for the cake and chocolate competition. Henderson said the new organizer should be fixing the error soon.

She said the Gygi Culinary Center will be hosting a special chocolate event on Nov. 20 and 21 for those in need of a chocolate fix.
