Shrinking Abravanel Hall

After reading the article in the March 11 Tribune Living Section, "Incredible shrinking Abravanel Hall," it was obvious Utah Symphony marketing director Sean Toomey and CEO Anne Ewers had made another unpopular decision for patrons.

First it was Saturday matinees, then the elimination of Finishing Touches, the move to Gardner Hall for the Chamber Music Series and dancers parading through musicians during performances.

Now, beginning next season, they won't offer for sale four to six seats on the edges of each row of the main floor, the last 10 rows on the main floor and portions of tiers one and two.

Why? According to management, "Unfilled seats don't look good for business." What happened to all the promises we heard during the merger? In this case, audiences have better eyes than ears. What are they going to do, put plants on the tiers, take out seats like they didn't exist? Let your voice be heard. Contact Anne and Sean at 801-533-5626.
