Man arrested at apartment after car chase

Police on Saturday night chased a wanted man from Ogden to Layton after he reportedly told police they wouldn't take him alive. The man was wanted on warrants alleging a parole violation and aggravated assault, said Layton police Sgt. Rod Dixon. A Weber County Sheriff's Office deputy spotted the man as a passenger in a Ford Ranger exiting Interstate 15 in Ogden. Deputies pulled over the truck, but the suspect exited the truck holding a knife and told the deputies they would have to shoot him because he wouldn't be taken alive, Dixon said. The man then drove off in the truck. Police pursued him south on I-15. He exited in Layton and drove to the Skyline View Apartments, 448 N. Fairfield Road. Dixon said police found out which apartment he might be in and were preparing to send a police dog into that unit when the suspect emerged from the apartment's bedroom. Police arrested him at gunpoint.

Drowsy driving suspected in crash that kills two

A head-on collision claimed the life of two Centerville residents as they drove home from the Lake Powell area Saturday. Travis Bastian, 28, and Desiree Bastian, 15, died when their 2002 Nissan Maxima crossed the centerline and slammed into a motor home carrying an Arizona family, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. The crash occurred around 2 p.m. on U.S. 89 at mile marker 41 - about 23 miles east of Kanab. Investigators found no evidence of drugs or alcohol and believe drowsy driving is the most probable reason for the collision. One passenger in the Bastians' car and three members of the Arizona family were injured.
