The Villa Theatre at 3092 S. Highland Drive opened, billing itself as "Salt Lake's Grandest Theatre" and boasted 1,300 stadium seats and 500 parking spots. The admission price was 75 cents for adults and 20 cents for children.

The Villa is quiet. Despite major renovations in 1996, the theater showed its last film, "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers," on Feb. 18, 2003.
