In advocating passage of an athlete training bill, a jovial Weber State University football coach Ron McBride veered into sensitive territory - religion.
"All ayes raise their hands," said McBride, while speaking to House members Wednesday. "That's what they do in the Mormon church."
Amid the strained laughter of the mostly LDS lawmakers, House Speaker Greg Curtis gently reined in the coach. "We're getting dangerously close to mixing church and state here," Curtis said.
It's a blurring of lines that has never occurred in the Utah Legislature.
