Another strange thing about the site was the "Join Sim" link. Once clicked, it said "Join Manuel."
It turns out the Web site was a complete rip-off of the Web site created for Manuel Herrera, who was running for mayor of San Jose, Calif., until he withdrew recently.
But the story gets more bizarre.
Gill knew nothing about the Web site, votesim.org.
Herrera says someone from Utah e-mailed him a link to the site and he was livid. "It's beautiful artwork that I commissioned and paid for," he said.
Gill says he had discussed designing a Web site with his campaign staff, but nothing had been finalized. He first learned about the site when he was called about it Tuesday.
The domain name is registered to Clifford Lyon, a volunteer on Gill's campaign. Gill says Lyon was never authorized to put up the site and has been ordered to take it down immediately.
Bumped again from rodeo: Last week, when I wrote about a black man from Sri Lanka being kicked out of the Dinosaur Rodeo Roundup at Vernal's Western Park because he was trying to take pictures, I mistakenly said it was a Vernal police officer who ordered him to leave.
Actually, it was Uintah County Sheriff's Detective Steve Labrum, who is on the park board, who made Oscar Nonis leave. Nonis returned with his wife Holly, a Vernal native, and the two complained to rodeo committee chairman John Allred. Allred apologized, said they could stay and gave them tickets to other rodeo events.
But when the mixed-race couple returned to the rodeo with friends the next day, Labrum again said they had to leave because the park board apparently didn't want them taking pictures.
Holly Nonis says she has filed a complaint with the NAACP.
An honest mistake: Art Haddow is the Republican candidate for Utah House District 38. So you can't blame him for being a little suspicious when he noticed this week that his name was missing from the Salt Lake County Clerk Office's online list of candidates.
The county clerk, you see, is Democrat Sherrie Swensen and Democrat Larry Wiley's name was on the list.
Haddow says when he contacted the Clerk's Office, he was told it was an honest mistake and his name should be listed by today's posting.
Another honest mistake: Last week I quoted a Salt Lake Magazine article that noted while Deeda Seed spoke candidly about the verbal abuse she took when she was Mayor Rocky Anderson's communications director, she would work for him again.
Seed informs me that the magazine misquoted her. She said she told the reporter if she had it do over she wouldn't change it, because it was a good experience. But she says she would never work for Anderson again, adding, "I'm not totally nuts."
