Real Salt Lake has signed forward Fabian Espindola to a contract, the Major League soccer club announced Wednesday.

Espindola played 24 games for Real during the 2007 and 2008 seasons. He scored a total of seven goals.

Espindola's most famous moment came during a 2-2 draw against the Los Angeles Galaxy on Sept. 6.

After thinking he had scored a goal, Espindola celebrated with a backflip.

The goal was waved off because of an offside call, however, and Espindola injured his ankle when he landed awkwardly.

Espindola was sidelined for the rest of the regular season and, after RSL was eliminated from the playoffs, his contract was not renewed.

According to RSL spokesman John Koluder, Espindola will not play Saturday night, when Real shoots for its third straight win at New York.

Espindola could be in the lineup April 25, when Real Salt Lake returns home and plays New England at Rio Tinto Stadium.
