It may have been only one game but when Brighton snapped a seven-game losing streak to Alta, it was one of the biggest wins of the season.
"In the past we have had problems beating Alta and Jordan. I thought the girls were going to have a heart attack after that Alta game," Brighton coach Mike Terry said.
Brighton held off the Hawks in the bottom of the seventh inning to get the slim 3-2 win and better yet won four straight before its final region game.
Brighton swept Jordan this season with a 5-3 win and a 7-6 win. The Bengals are playing their best softball heading into the state tournament. Terry said his team is starting to live up to the way he expected it to be playing.
"Since we are so young, early in the season we had problems overcoming our mistakes because so many players were new to varsity," Terry said.

    Juan Diego

Juan Diego finished the regular season on an eight-game winning streak. The Soaring Eagle were especially getting strong performances from their top two players, Brie Dimond and Taylor Anderson.
On Juan Diego's senior day against Emery, Dimond pitched a no-hitter to go with 13 strikeouts. Anderson and Dimond have combined to get all eight wins during the eight-game streak.
"Those two work extremely hard," Juan Diego

coach Tom Rodgers said. "I don't know of two players working harder than those two."
While Rodgers knew he would get the contribution from Dimond and Anderson, he hoped he was going to get big things from junior Amber Gnasu, playing her first year for Juan Diego. And finally he is. Gnasu hit five home runs in the Soaring Eagle's last eight games.

    Riverton

Riverton has two in-state losses this season and both came in region play against Bingham. Both came against Bingham pitcher Tori Almond.
Those two losses will likely cost the Silverwolves a shot at the region title and to make matters worse will put Riverton in the same bracket as 5A's top ranked Spanish Fork in the state tournament.
