SANDY - There's no question this was a big victory for Brighton. Winning a region title, especially in Region 2, is no small feat. But, the Bengals also put the win into perspective.
After they beat Jordan 1-0 in a hard-fought battle - one in which both teams came into the game with identical records - Brighton celebrated shortly and is quickly turning its attention to its first-round opponent in the state tournament next Tuesday.
"This was really important, but what we're really looking for is state championship," Brighton's Patxi Shortsleeve said. "This is just a steppingstone to that."
Despite not knowing the team they will face next Tuesday, the Bengals do know how they're prepared.
"We're going to play our game," Brighton coach Russ Boyer said. "We're focused on Tuesday."
Jordan and Brighton are two of the top teams in Class 5A, but the difference Tuesday was the Bengals' depth. At times, Boyer substituted five players, notably in the second half. He was constantly making sure that the players in the game were playing as hard as they could.
That's what gave Brighton's Adam Dahlberg the confidence to sprint after every ball - he knew as soon as he got tired, a teammate could come in and pick up where he left off.
In the 44th minute, Dahlberg chased down a ball that was headed out of bounds. He saw Travis Barton

but hesitated to pass it to him because he would've been off sides. Dahlberg got past a Jordan defender by cutting the ball inside and shot the ball with his left foot.
His third goal of the season gave his team the region title.
"Our depth is amazing. We have 20 guys that can start on any varsity team," Dahlberg said. "That gave us a boost but we're not going get big heads."
