After a heart-wrenching loss in the championship game last year, there was only one team on Bonneville's agenda this year: Bountiful. After their Region 5-clinching 3-1 victory Friday, it's safe to say the Braves have been scratched off the Lakers' hit list.
The game started off with both teams a little tentative, with the intensity of the rivalry taking almost a half an hour to subside. After a goal from Laker Mitch Fackwell in the 32nd minute, Bonneville was able to take a deep breath and start playing the way that would close-out their season sweep of the Braves.
Coach Mike Hickman knew his team had some jitters, and knew it would only be a matter of time until everything smoothed out. "The kids were nervous, they new what was at stake. They really didn't put many passes together, they played hurried, but they get that goal and everything settles down," said Hickman.
Senior forward Jason Long supplied the rest of the Laker's firepower, scoring two goals in the 49th minute.
His first goal was simply him being at the right place at the right time, as he sputtered in a rebound to put it up 2-0. Moments later, a towering free-kick from Josh Lyman met Lang's head and the Region 5 title was decided.

Mike Hodgen punched in a goal for Bountiful in the 72nd minute, but it was too little too late. There's a new king in town for Region 5.
