HIGHLAND - With six seconds left and with all the pressure that comes from playing a Lone Peak team ranked No. 25 in the USA Today poll, Provo's Adam Law did something that he described in three words.

"I stroked it," he said.

With his fourth and most important three-pointer of the night, Law provided a thrilling end to a night that had defending Class 4A champion Provo go up against defending Class 5A champion Lone Peak, as the visiting Bulldogs escaped with a 64-62 win in the annual Hall of Fame game.

Still, Provo coach Craig Drury said the win doesn't mean much, except that the Bulldogs start the season with a 1-0 record. But consider this: the win marks the first time Lone Peak lost since Jan. 12, when the Knights were beaten on a half-court shot by Spanish Fork.

"Coach Drury said he's not used to being the underdog," said Law, who finished with 14 points. "Tonight, we were the underdogs, so we go out - because you have nothing to lose - play our hearts out and get a victory."

It was an even, up-and-down match from the get-go.

Lone Peak led 16-15 at the end of the first quarter, then was down 32-29 at halftime. The Knights came back with strong performances from Tyler Haws and Josh Sharp, who finished with 25 and 26 points, respectively. Lone Peak led by as many as five in the second half.

But Provo had a stingy defense, with Scott Edwards leading the way. And with back-to-back layups from center Brandon Davies - the junior and teammate Kyle Collinsworth finished with 16 points apiece - the Bulldogs had a 52-47 lead with four minutes left in the game.

However, Haws had other plans. He nailed a leaning 18-foot jumper with about 20 seconds left to give his Knights the 62-61 advantage.

That, of course, only set up Law's heroics.

"We're 1-0," Drury said. "It doesn't mean anything more to us than that."
