But something wasn't right.
Where the Davis sophomore stopped wasn't the finish line. She had about 30 more meters to go. That allowed her competitor - Bingham senior Kim Quinn - to jump on the opportunity and pass her, and Eddy watched her first win against perhaps the best girl runner in Utah fade away in the Brigham Young Autumn Classic.
Quinn finished in 18 minutes, 50 seconds, Eddy three seconds later.
"I just saw the word 'finish' and wanted to stop," Eddy said.
"She wasn't quite thinking straight. By then, she had already given her all," said her coach Corbin Talley.
With temperatures in the high 70s, Eddy sat back behind Quinn for most of the race - until about 1,500 meters left, when she then managed to pull away. But Eddy began to show fatigue. At the last corner, Eddy failed to turn and instead ran straight before realizing she was heading in the wrong direction.
Though she is satisfied with the win, Quinn said it was a "lucky" one.
"When I saw that she went in front of me, I wanted to get back at her so badly," Quinn said. "I just kept driving. When she went off the course, I knew that was my chance to pass her."
The Judge Memorial trio - junior Lindsay Baker, senior Samantha McMillan and junior Hailey Knettles - finished third, fourth and sixth, respectively. Eddy's teammate, junior Natalie Haws, came in fifth.
