The biggest basket of the night may also have been the easiest for Dan Prawitt.

Wide open -- make that practically all alone -- under the bucket after a loose-ball scramble, the Bountiful junior's simple layup with 1:42 remaining and a putback basket 36 seconds later put the Braves ahead for good in their 54-51 victory over top-ranked Olympus on Friday in a Region 6 play.

Bountiful (10-5, 6-0) extended its winning streak to seven games while issuing Olympus (13-2, 5-1) its first loss in region play. A team that struggled during nonconference play now leads the region by withstanding the Titans' strong third quarter and doing the little things.

"We started out scared to death with five juniors," said Bountiful coach Mike Maxwell. "Now we're five juniors seasoned and ready to play and believing. That's all we can ask."

It was a three-pointing shooting exhibition, as both teams combined for 18 treys.

However, Bountiful parlayed the stuff coaches love -- drawing charges, getting the trap in the corner to force a steal, and that loose ball scattering into a comfortable first-half lead and a key defensive stance after the teams traded the lead four times in the fourth quarter.

Prawitt's two baskets were proof.

"You have to have the little things ... when you execute those, it comes up big," Maxwell said.

"Dan's a battler who doesn't care if he scores. He'll do everything he's asked to do. You have to guys willing to do that."

Four free throws from Nick Williams (13 points ) and two from McKay LaSalle (19) were needed by the Braves as Olympus' pinpoint three-point shooting continued to the buzzer.

Manny Riak (14 points) closed it to 50-48 with 12.3 seconds left, and Nicholas Paulus made it 52-51 with two seconds to go, but the Titans ran out of time.

Bountiful's home-court confidence showed early. LaSalle drained three of his five three-pointers in the first half as he and Dillon Salazar each scored 11 points to spark the Braves, who led by as many 12.

"We're at home and we believe we can outscore and outplay anybody here," Maxwell said.
