Provo » When Provo coach Craig Drury wrote "5-0" on the locker room board, it struck a chord with Kyle Collinsworth.
Let the boisterous student sections have fun with the rivalry stuff. Collinsworth and the Bulldogs took care of the big picture with a 46-32 road rout of Timpview Tuesday night. Provo (11-2, 5-0) remained unbeaten in Region 8 play and took a one-game lead over the Thunderbirds (9-5, 4-1) with the marquee win.
"People talked about how big this game was because it was Timpview," Collinsworth said. [However], it's big because we're 5-0 and in first place in the region."
The BYU signee scored 19 points, but it was the Bulldogs' defense that held Timpview to just one first-quarter field goal and its lowest offensive output of the season ... on its home court.
Collinsworth knew Provo could shut down Timpview like this. Really.
"Second half we rebounded a lot better and that helped us keep them in the 30s," Collinsworth said. "The first quarter really set the tone."
Colby Jorgensen's basket and-one with 3:05 remaining was Timpview's only first-quarter points.
Timpview, which had a six-game winning streak snapped, simply could not get into any offensive rhythm. Spurts from role players Josh Warner and Ryan Nash got the Thunderbirds within six points on two second-quarter occasion, but never closer.
Complimenting Collinsworth was Keith Moore, who registered his second straight 13 point night by driving to the basket.
"Keith's a hard-nosed player and I love kids like that," Drury said. My other guard Ryan Durrant (nine points) is that sweet shooter so I have a good combination on the perimeter."
Kyle Collinsworth scores 19 points and Keith Moore adds 13 points.
» Provo's defense holds Timpview to three first-quarter points and snaps the Thunderbirds six-game winning streak.
