Springville » It's become a two-man game for the Springville girls' basketball team's offense. Lexie Eaton couldn't be happier.
Sadie Clements continued her strong scoring run as she and Eaton combined for 47 points in the Red Devils' 65-36 dispatching of Salem Hills in a Region 8 game Friday.
Eaton, the BYU signee who leads Class 4A in scoring and is in a virtual tie with Layton Christian's Jasmine Porter for the overall state lead, registered 24 points -- her 11th game this season with 20 or more.
Clements has picked up her game lately. Her 23 points gave her a third consecutive 20-point outing.
"Sadie's awesome to play with," Eaton said of Clements. "We both work well together. She always kicks out [passes] to me. There's a good chemistry on the court."
Clements, a senior, finished with five three-pointers and combined with Eaton on the Red Devils' first 16 points in the opening six minutes while the Springville (13-0) defense limited the Skyhawks (7-6) to a pair of free throws.
"It's not even a competition between us to see who score the most points. ... We don't care about that," Clements said. "My teammates have been giving me the ball when I've been making the shots and if someone else was hitting, I'd be getting the ball to them. We play pretty well when it comes to hitting the open person."
Springville coach Nancy Walker appreciates that Eaton-Clements isn't an exclusive game.
"What I like is they give great passes to each other and to their teammates to get everybody involved," Walker said. "You couldn't ask for anything else. Sadie was on fire tonight. When you work as hard as she does, good things happen."
Strong post play from Jaimee Hodgson (13 points) kept the Skyhawks within striking distance in the first half, but Eaton's 11-point third quarter pushed Springville's lead to 53-31 entering the fourth quarter.
Class 4A scoring leader Lexie Eaton scores 24 points -- her 11th game this year of 20-plus.
» Springville teammate Sadie Clements adds 23 points -- her third straight game of 20 or more.
» With the win, the Red Devils improve to 13-0 on the season.
