Being undefeated going into the holiday break is exactly where the Springville girls' basketball team wanted to be. With an 8-0 record, the Red Devils have a good start to the preseason that will likely make them a tough team in Region 8.

"We can't complain about our record but the key is focusing on the little things and making sure mistakes aren't made," said coach Nancy Warner.

The Red Devils are led by their captains, Lexie Eaton, Sadie Clements and Jessica Jensen.

Clements has committed to play at Sacramento State next year and although Eaton is only a junior, she has committed to play at BYU. Clements takes her role as point guard very seriously and is a great defender.

She also keeps the pace of the team and keeps them from being distracted by the other team.

Warner said one of the team's biggest strengths is its defense and an ability to hold off their opponents and limit their scoring is one reason Springville has done well this season.

"These girls know how each other plays so it makes it easier for them to support each other on the court," Warner said. "This kind of team unity is a big advantage for us and it's something that every team wants."

Jensen has developed into a strong defender and Warner said she wants her to defend inside as well as score. Junior Jen Mason is another defender Warner is looking at. She said Mason has gotten more playing time this season and is evolving into a great defender.
