It took two goal-line stands and a late fourth-down conversion, but Park City defeated Delta 21-14 in a closer-than-expected 3A quarterfinal matchup Friday.

The Miners rode running back Dylan Chynoweth to victory. The senior ran 21 times for 273 yards and all three Park City touchdowns. No run was more important than his last, a four-yard plunge on fourth-and-inches from the Park City 10-yard line with 50.9 seconds left that gave the Miners the first down and allowed them to run out the clock.

"[Delta] had a great game plan, but Dylan Chynoweth is the hero," Park City coach Brandon Matich said.

Delta, which lost to Park City 41-17 earlier in the season, certainly gave Park City more of a scare than most anticipated. After Rabbit quarterback Joey Dutson inched into the end zone with 5:14 left to play, making the score 21-14, Delta used confusion to gain possession again. The kick-off team bunched together, forcing Park City's return team to squeeze forward in case of an onside kick.

Delta then kicked the ball deep, creating a loose ball thatthe Rabbits recovered on the Miners' 15-yard line. Four plays later, Delta faced a second-and-goal from the 2-yard line. Dutson lunged to tie the game, but the ball popped free and Park City's Bryce Delnort emerged with the ball.

"We knew that they're twice the team they were the first time we played them," Chynoweth said.
