Provo was the favorite, technically, in a 4A tilt with Woods Cross.

The lower-seeded Wildcats showed why many had predicted an upset in their 35-20 win Friday. The Wildcats' domination started when quarterback Tyler Parson found receiver Tanner Johnson for an 18-yard touchdown late in the first quarter. Parson finished with over 100 yards passing to lead the win.

"We did well, but we have to get a lot better for next week, teams are going to get better every week," Parson said. "We had a lot of mistakes and we need to clean that up but we had a pretty good game."

Woods Cross built a big lead in the third quarter. C.J. Corry ran in the second Wildcat touchdown six minutes into the second quarter. The Wildcats had a 21-0 advantage in the second quarter after returned an interception 24 yards for a touchdown.

The Bulldogs were finally able to get on the board when Matt Griner threw a 24-yard pass to wide receiver Seth Rhineer with less than a minute left in the first half.

At the start of the third quarter, Provo scored first on a 1-yard run to make it 21-14. But Woods Cross scored less than three minutes later when Parson threw a 17-yard pass to running back Parker Rose to bring the score to 28-14.

There were several interceptions but none was bigger than the one by Woods Cross's Adam Hales.

stepped in front of a pass and returned it 90 yards for a touchdown and a 35-14 lead.

Though it was a win -- and, technically, an upset, penalties plagued Woods Cross and concerned coach Fred Fernandes.

"We're going to have to clean up the penalties," Fernandes said. "We had those back to back holding calls on the same kid and that's something we are going to have to tighten up when we meet up with Springville."
